Big Farm Projects, Markets, Pansy Sale, Asparagus & Tulips
Evening, folks! Getting a quick email out before the market at Cheshire Med. We’re back at the market with more asparagus from our friends at Warner Farm. We also have plenty in the store and ordered a second case to make sure we keep it stocked through the weekend. We’re also still picking bucketloads of of our own tulips which will be at the markets today and this weekend! On the farm we’re having a sale on the remaining six-packs of pansies to try and clear our stock before moving more plants onto the tables outside. Just $3.50 each until we’re sold out!
It’s been a busy week on the farm! We put new plastic on our two big greenhouses as well as soil steamed the beds for weed control in them. I did not want these projects to be lined up in the same week, but based on scheduling for renting the soil steamer and waiting for a calm day (which did not end up being so calm) to change the plastic, we had to get them both done this week. Luckily we are just about finished up with both tasks just in time for our next big projects to begin next week! It feels good to get new plastic on the greenhouses as this has been part of an long term, partially grant funded, renovation of our two big greenhouses with energy efficiency being at the top of our priorities. We’re not done yet, but the bulk of the project is done with just a few more installations to take place in the fall once we reclaim some more time from the fields.
I wanted to mention this project because with all the construction on the greenhouses this winter and spring, we’re going to a have a bit of a gap in our spring greens production until the fields start producing in a few weeks. This will be the last week at our markets with our own Chard, Spinach, and Radishes. Luckily we have a lot of friends at local farms that we can lean on to keep the farm store and Cheshire Med market full of everyone’s favorite produce while we have a slight dip in production capacity. We will prioritize sending what we have of our own produce to the Keene Market since it is a producers only market. Regardless, we still expect to have a full store and market stands, and field crops are just around the corner! Come say hi this weekend!
