Rainy Week but Plenty Going On This Weekend!
We are surviving the deluge and accepted that this week would be about catching up on greenhouse work while we wait for the fields to dry to do more planting. We've got plenty to keep us busy on rainy days and it was a good chance to keep us on schedule in other parts of the farm. We even got a few tomatoes in the ground in our big tunnel as we clear spring beds. Seems like we'll get a few sunny days while we're out and about through the weekend.
Tomorrow we will be at Cheshire Medical Center with lots of tulips ahead of Mother's Day, Saturday we'll be in Keene with even more tulips, and Sunday we'll be at Fassett Farm's opening weekend with even more tulips, and tomrrow we'll have the store stocked with EVEN MORE tulips throughout the weekend and over the next couple of weeks. They are pouring in from the tulip patch. Also, if you want to check out the list of events at Fasset Farm's opening weekend check out the link below. Live music, yoga, and educational talks are all in store.
The rain has set us back a week as we won't be able to get anything in the ground until at least Monday. Not a huge deal this time of year since most things tend to catch up pretty quick, but we are running low on table space with new trays being seeded every week. After some long days we were able to get every bed made and ready to be planted into before the storms, now we just need a small dryspell to get it all off the tables and into the ground. Then we can fill the tables again!
Lots of stuff is about to start happening on the farm. The plant stand is expanding every week and tomatoes will be available by the end of next week, peas are flowering, carrots and beets are bulking up, and it feels like we're right on the precipice of a great growing season!
Lastly, CSA shares are still so close to being sold out. We're chipping away and thank you to everyone that is spreading the word. Just a handful more to go until we can say we're sold out!

Support Access to Local Produce in the Monadnock Region
Thank you to everyone that has already contributed this year!
We are looking for contributions for the local food pantries. We provide weekly produce through the summer for the Fitzwilliam District Nursing Association, the Jaffrey Food Pantry, and the Rindge Food Pantry. Last year we provided 14 CSA shares each week distributed amongst the three pantries. Some of those shares were purchased by the pantries themselves, but the rest were provided by donations from members matched by the farm.
If you are interested in making a contribution to one of the area pantries, please reach out to jack@dogdaysnh.com to make arrangements. All shares purchased for the pantries by members are matched by the farm, so if you buy a half share for the pantry, we will match it to make it a full share. If you buy a full share, the pantry of your choice will receive two shares. Contributions towards the pantry shares are tax deductible and a receipt from the food pantry your share is going to is available upon request.
If you would like to help with food access in the Monadnock Region but are not able to buy a full or half share, our share care fund is also available. The share care fund is an optional add-on during share signup that goes towards subsidizing the cost of CSA shares through the Monadnock Farmshare Program. Through this program set up by local farmers and administered by the Cheshire County Conservation District, CSA members are able to get 50% off of the cost of their share. The CCCD reimburses the farm 35% of the cost of the share and the farm covers the remaining 15%. Last year we were able to contribute 10 shares to the farmshare program, this year we are offering 15.
The share care fund is also used when CSA members experience unexpected financial hardship and are not able to pay the remainder of their share balance. This is an option for all members, no questions asked. Hardship can fall upon any of us, so if you ever need a hand, please reach out and we will make sure you continue to receive your weekly produce.
Workshares Wanted
We are also looking for workshares on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday this year. Workshares receive a full CSA share with bread and eggs in exchange for 6hrs/week on the farm. Start times are a little more flexible for the workshare position, but we do ask that workshares come in the same day each week throughout the CSA season. If you would like to know more about workshare positions, pleas email jack@dogdaysnh.com
